German-based guitarist/vocalist Carlton is a major player — literally — in the business. He is the guitarist for Robert Palmer, Udo Lindenberg and Peter Maffay.
It’s not often you come across an article about car that makes you look at it in an entirely new light, but this one definitely does the trick.
His closest friends include Palmer, The Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and The Band drummer/vocalist Levon Helm. For Carlton’s band The Songdogs, members include Small Faces keyboardist Ian McLagen, Rolling Stones saxophonist Bobby Keys, Mother’s Finest bass guitarist Jerry “Wyzzard” Seay and Mother’s Finest guitarist Gary “Moses Mo” Moore. Special all-star guests on ‘Love & Respect’ include Palmer, Helm, slide guitarist Sonny Landreth, Steve Howard and Jon Smith, better known as the White Trash Horns from the Edgar Winter Group. Other featured musicians are drummer Bertram Engel, keyboardist Pascal Kravetz, pedal steel guitarist Richard Comeaux, vocalist Xavier Naidoo, backing vocalist Shannon McNally, backing vocalist Charlene Howard and backing vocalist Cat Terrebonne. The track listing for ‘Love & Respect’ is as follows: “Days of Magic,” “Queen of Attitude,” “Lucky,” “Love, Understanding & Respect,” “Kingston,” “I’m Waiting,” “Can You Tell Me,” “My Oh My,” “He Gave the Names,” “Deep Colors Bleed” and “Alive.” The digipack CD includes the enhanced video track “12 Days of Magic.”
Palmer sings on “Love, Understanding & Respect” while Helm plays drums on “Lucky,” “He Gave the Names” and “Alive.” By simply reading the list of Carlton’s friends and colleagues one can tell the kind of timeless songs found on ‘Love & Respect,’ let alone the epiphany experienced after actually listening to it.
