Are you as tired as I am of hearing about the price of gas these days? The gas prices rose once again due to the latest hurricane that hit through our nation. This time around my family and I were not affected with this new price hike. Why, you may ask?

Our first electric car conversion project has now become a reality. We have now reached the point where we are not worried about the price of gas. Two months ago when we were first considering electric car conversion, we were not sure if it would even meet our needs or if it could even be done.

To answer this question, we went out and did some research on electric car conversion. We wanted to know if electric car conversions work, the cost expected to complete a conversion, and how to even get started. We aren’t mechanics, but we dabble a little in home improvement projects. So, we wanted to know if we really could be successful since we have very little automotive experience.

To perform a conversion, the options are either to hire a professional or to do it yourself. Hiring a professional can be relatively expensive compared to the cost of performing it yourself. As the demand rises for electric cars due to high oil prices, then the cost to hire a professional will continually climb as well. If you are interested in performing the work yourself, then there are systems available that can assist you to complete your conversion for less than $500. This is equivalent to the monthly cost of gas in many families today.

Building an electric car is much simplier than you may expect. The key is to have the right tools and equipment in place. The information that we used helped us to go step by step in the process. The entire process can be completed in less time and with less frustration depending on your level of knowledge.

Converting your vehicle simply requires that your gas powered engine be replaced by an electric motor. The motor will run off of rechargeable batteries as its main power source. The choice in the motors and batteries that are used will affect the overall performance of your vehicle. These two components influence the distance that your car will be able to go without needing a recharge.

One of the best methods to get started is to follow an electric car conversion guide which will take a beginner step by step. When selecting a guide, choose one that provides easy to read instructions with diagrams so that you can see and understand the steps required. Choose a guide that will provide suggestions on where to find the parts that you need at an affordable price.

Building an electric car can be a feasible solution to cut your gas bills. There is no more dependency on oil for us. We have now reached the point that we are able to drive by a gas station without batting one eye lash as we see the price for a regular gallon of gas.
