All right, so my car is a piece of junk. So what? Yes, there’s little bit of duct tape here and there, the shocks are shot, and the tires are bald. But I can depend on it to get me from point A to point B, most of the time. Except for twice last week. And then this morning it wouldn’t start, again.

Perhaps it is time to buy a new vehicle, or a least one that starts all the time. But I’m not going to a dealership like last time, I always get talked into paying more than I want to. And no matter how great they say the car is the bottom line is that they make money buy selling you the worst car they can for the highest price they can get. I think that it’s time to go for a privately sold car. This should save some money.

Where do I begin? Since I’m looking in my area, perhaps I’ll start with the local newspaper. There’s a whole section of used cars for sale in the classifieds. This seems like a good idea. Or there are the car trader papers, classified papers devoted entirely to cars for sale all over America. Maybe the perfect car for me is just a few states away. Or it might just be time to embrace technology.

It’s time to start my online search for the right vehicle for me. I can look at local online classifieds for sellers of used cars in my area, or look at cars for sale all over the United States, and even the world. I can limit my search to type of vehicle like cars, minivans or trucks. I can also limit to new or used vehicles and restrict results to a certain price range. Wow, that’s a pretty specific search. Now to find the right fit for me.

But should I buy a used car? Or treat myself to a new one? The downside of new cars is that you loose so much value off the bat and you haven’t even done anything except drive it a few blocks. There are big savings to be had just by buying a vehicle that is one or two years old. There may be a few scratches, and more than a few miles on it, but it will be your car just the same. Plus, you can spend some of the money you saved on one of those Christmas tree air fresheners. I hear they come in new car smell now.
