If you are a music fanatic and if you have an ear for quality music then having a good quality dual sub-woofers connected to your car`s audio system is the best way to bring the best out of your audio system. This article will guide you on how to wire dual sub woofers. Having a good wiring is an important part of having a good car audio system. There are two common ways of making wiring connection and I am going to explain both types of wiring system.
To wire a dual sub woofer in your car you will require sub woofer speakers, wire and an amplifier. The sub woofer speaker and the amplifier can be bought in your local car parts shop but before buying keep your car`s model and your requirements in mind.
First the sub woofers impedance or resistance has to be checked. Sub woofers with various impedance values are available in the market but the most common resistance present in the sub woofers are the 2 ohm and 4 ohm. Of these two types, 4 ohm sub woofer is the most common type and the following steps are explained keeping a 4 ohm sub woofer in mind.
An amplifier will have two channels. One subwoofer has to be connected to each of these channels. But before connecting remove the insulation from the end of the wire. About 0.5 inch of insulation has to be removed for making the connection. Connect the wire from the positive terminal from the right channel of the amplifier to the positive terminal of the sub. Now connect the negative terminal from the right channel of the amplifier to the negative terminal of the sub. Now repeat these steps to the left channel of the amplifier.
The connections are made through terminals amongst which push type is commonly used. In this type the wire is inserted into a hole which will open, when the lever connected to it is pushed. The steps are the instructions for dual channel amplifiers.
Amplifiers and sub woofers have different kinds of terminals. Push terminal is the most common type of terminal. This terminal pushes a small lever an a hole is generated. And the wire is slipped through this. A mono amplifier can also be used to wire a sub woofer. The step 2 is followed once again. The amplifier’s positive terminal is connected to the first sub woofer’s positive in the same way the negatives are also connected. These are repeated and also known as Daisy chaining often.
Check your sub woofers by playing a track of your choice. If you feel that the bass is not good enough check for all the wiring so as to ensure that there is no wrong connection made between negative and positive. Such a wrong wiring may lead to poor sound quality and also make it play out of phase. This should be avoided.
One should always know how to wire dual sub woofer, so as to have their car stereo and sub woofer working in a proper condition and to enhance good sound quality.
