The more you and your fledgling driver know about drivers ed the better off the new driving experience will be. While once these classes were a simple elective to help round out a high school education, these classes are now considered mandatory by almost every school as well as almost every state. In order to receive a driver’s license a student must be able to prove the completion of drivers ed as well as a specified number of hours of behind the wheel experience. Being able to verify this information is necessary in order to be given the driving tests.

Of course, drivers ed does more than just give your student the chance to take a driving test. It is just as much about giving every new driver a safe and well balanced experience to help prevent the rapidly increasing rate of new driver accidents. The first few years of a new driver’s ticket to freedom will help determine whether or not they will be a careful and safe driver. By giving each child access to a well founded drivers ed class, we can be assured that the number of fatal accidents involving kids under the age of 18 will continue to decrease.

Car accidents are the leading cause of death for kids under the age of 21. Many of these car accidents are related to the experimental or regular use of alcohol or illegal drug use. The small percentage of fatal accidents that are caused by negligence are most often caused by inexperienced drivers.

Drivers ed classes give a student access to programs such as simulators that help educate students about the real possibilities on the road. The ability to brake right or brake left can help a student avoid a potentially fatal car accident. By completing a class the student learns how to anticipate these moves thanks to simulating experiences. Simulators put students in dangerous positions that they may very well experience while in the real driving world and show them how to handle each situation. Repetitive exposure helps the student retain the information.

The driving simulation machines are a great way for many students to understand how their reactions will affect them on the road. Learning how to respond quickly but safely in almost any kind of driving situation is pertinent to learning how to be a safe and expedient driver.

Whether your child receives their license upon the completion of the course or if they end up waiting a few years to allow for additional maturity the lessons learned in class are invaluable for a lifetime behind the wheel. Insisting that your child knows about drivers ed and engages in the class with the same enthusiasm as they do their other classes is one way to help keep them safe.

Our roads are more dangerous than ever before. We have too many cars on the road. We have too many people multitasking behind the wheel and too many people driving around ready to snap at the slightest indiscretion. In order to protect our children from the potential dangers of driving they need to be thoroughly educated.

Kids tend to think more about their music, picking up their friends, and the thrill of the open road well before they think about the potential for serious damage if they aren’t able to realize the potential consequences. Knowing about drivers ed and its impact makes it more than just a way to graduate high school.
