Responsible drivers understand the need for car insurance. But if you’re gong to be responsible, then be smart too. Car insurance cover can be expensive, so it’s best to do all you can to keep your premiums low without sacrificing necessary cover. Before you sign up for a policy, review these tips for finding the right policy at the right price.

The best way to find the right policy is the shop around. Compare insurance quotes from at least three companies, or you can get a broker to do it for you. And don’t just look at price. Cheapest is not necessarily best. Be sure the policy offers the cover you need at a price you can afford.

Freight shipping, which is usually determined by weight, is the way to go when you have an extremely large package that won’t be able to be delivered via traditional methods. A good example of this is furniture delivery - one cannot box up a sofa and bring it into the local post office.

While it is okay to bring some large parcels into a normal courier agency, most of them cannot exceed 70 pounds for overnight service. Freight companies on the other hand, can deliver several hundred pounds of merchandise. The mode of transportation for these services can vary and often include:

Is it me, or does it seem as if gas prices are going up every day? In Atlanta, the average price at the moment is around $4.05 / gallon, which is not as much as the west coast but still a bit too lofty for my blood. Sometimes I wonder what it’s going to take for people to storm Washington DC and oust those who are turning a blind eye to the public. But, in all fairness, it’s not only the US that is being raped by Big Oil, as some countries pay over $8.00 per gallon!

All right, so my car is a piece of junk. So what? Yes, there’s little bit of duct tape here and there, the shocks are shot, and the tires are bald. But I can depend on it to get me from point A to point B, most of the time. Except for twice last week. And then this morning it wouldn’t start, again.

Car insurance is an expense that no driver can afford to live without. If you drive uninsured, you are driving illegally. You can, however, save money on your car insurance if you shop carefully.

Tip 1 - Up the Deductible and the Maximum Coverage

You can save money on your car insurance by increasing your deductible or lowering your maximum coverage. Increasing your deductible makes sense, because in a crunch most people can come up with $500. Lowering your maximum coverage is dangerous, however. If you are in a car accident and someone sues you for $500,000 and your liability coverage is only $50,000, will you be able to come up with the extra $450,000? Probably not. Keep your deductible high but the maximum coverage high as well.
